Little Tokyo Artist Convening: First Street North

Meetings Events
Saturday, December 9, 2017
12:00–2:00pm
JACCC

Little Tokyo is a 133-year old community and 1 of 3 remaining historic Japantowns in the nation. Arts and culture have been vital to the growth of our neighborhood—from the 100-year old Buddhist temples to the longest running theatre of color in the nation. Learn how you, as artists and cultural bearers, can get involved in the work to sustain our community against rising levels of displacement and gentrification. Become a part of our arts community as we build towards a more equitable future for our neighborhood and city.

This convening will focus on First Street North (FSN), a block critical to Little Tokyo's past, present, and future. FSN is home to some of our most important arts, cultural, and historic institutions and sites, but most of it is city-owned land that may go up for development by mid-2018. The community demands control of the development of this block. Artists and art will play a key role in the campaign for the equitable development, and we need your help! http://www.sustainablelittletokyo.org/firststreetnorth

This artist convening will also include information on many PAID artist opportunities, including:

  • LTSC +Lab Artist Residency
  • Call for proposals for Little Tokyo Open: The Art of Mini-Golf
  • Call for proposals for Windows of Little Tokyo
  • and more!
